Japanese-American accomplishments are a logical outcome of Japanese-American culture and institutions, but, more importantly, of the energy and spirit of the hundreds of thousands of Japanese, some prominent figures now, who have made places for themselves in the American society. Nevertheless, the Japanese-American, like any American, must adapt to ever-changing problems and conditions. This study is an attempt to present the experiences of one specific ethnic group as an illustration of a means of adapting to interethnic contact and conflict with a minimum of violence and chaos. The following topics are dealt with: (1) strategy of adaptation and general background of the Japanese-Group; (2) Japanese in the U.S. until World War II; (3) the wartime evacuation; (4) conditions after World War II; (5) the family in America and Japan; (6) the community in America and Japan; (7) the culture; and, (8) social deviance.
